In late 2017, I was terminated from my position from a local company, a position I had held for 19 years. Being 62 years old, well paid, and well established in the community. I was devastated. There were no other jobs that needed my specific talents in the area. Even if I could relocate, nobody was going to hire an expensive old guy that would probably retire within 3 or 4 years.

So, I began searching for an attorney, at first just to discuss my options. I was referred to a couple of “big names” in the San Antonio area, who were very polite, but, just my opinion, did not see the “Big Bucks” coming in from a small company in a rural Texas town. One of them referred me to Chris McKinney. That’s the best piece of advice I’ve ever received!

I made an appointment with the McKinney Law Firm. From the first meeting, Chris, and his wife Heather, put me at ease. I told them my story, presented the facts as I saw them, and explained how totally worthless I was feeling, and the toll it was taking on me and my family. If you have never gone through something like this, I can assure you that it is horrible.

First of all, Chris and Heather have decades of experience in Employment Discrimination law. He explained that age discrimination is against the law. He also explained that in Texas, being a “Right to Work” state, you can be fired for any reason, or no reason at all. The fact that my termination with no severance, no nothing, was not right, in the end that really didn’t matter. What DID matter were the reasons I was fired, and if they were legal, or not. That’s what I liked about Chris, he tells you what you need to know, not what you want to hear. That is a rare quality in an attorney.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, for the next year Chris interviewed other affected employees, investigated my claims, brought in experts to analyze the case, and in short devoted himself to my case fully. He even visited my home, and interviewed my family as to the effect this had had on them. Each step of the way, Chris kept me fully informed of the good, and the not so good news.

After 15 months, the case was resolved, and I have now found a good position with a new company.
So, life is once again good. I do not wish what I went through on anyone, but if you have been unfairly dismissed from you job because of age, sex, or any other illegal reason, you absolutely CAN NOT find a finer Law Firm to represent you than McKinney Law Firm. Chris and Heather were my attorneys, but I now count them as my good friends.

Mr. McKinney did a great job since the initial call that was affordable compared to other lawyers in the San Antonio area. I was fighting a major banking/insurance business in San Antonio as they were trying to make me resign due to moving to another state for family medical issues even though I was a permanent work at home employee. Mr. McKinney took the time to listen to my complaint and came up with a letter that I sent to my Manager and HR personnel. After about 2 weeks of PTO and 3 weeks of paid administrative leave the employer’s decision was to keep me employed even though their first decision was to make me quit and advised they would not support my move initially. Thank you Mr. McKinney because of your assistance I am still employed at this time.

After being asked to resign from the position that I held for several years without reprimand or complaint, I was hesitant to contact an attorney. Mr. McKinney’s office contacted me shortly after I submitted my contact and were able to meet with me within days. Chris McKinney’s demeanor and apparent professionalism put me at ease immediately. His advice was invaluable and brought to my attention areas of my contract that would make it troublesome for me to move on within my given industry. As he collected the information to build the ‘case’, if it were to be needed, he payed careful and thoughtful attention to the personalities involved and developed a strategy and approach that yielded an extremely successful response and outcome.

At a time that was both professionally and emotionally stressful, Mr. McKinney made me feel empowered and ensured that my best interests were being well protected. The level of communication was fantastic and was never lacking. I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of negotiations or status of the resulting relationships. This experience made me realize the importance of having a professional that will approach the matter with respect on your side.

I was referred to Chris by a colleague to assist me with a lawsuit that was filed against me by a former employer. From the very beginning, he was very helpful in explaining how the whole process would work and what to expect moving forward. He was diligent in maintaining contact with the opposing counsel and serving as my voice as we went through negotiations on a settlement. Chris was very proactive in explaining the drafts that we received with both what should be accepted and declined, but always allowed me to share any thoughts or concerns that I had, and was timely in replying to the opposition. He was able to prepare me for the deposition and I was very comfortable and relaxed going through a nerve-wracking process. I can say without hesitate or reservation, I would use him again because of his professionalism, diligence, helpfulness, and sense of humor.

My experience with this law firm has been wonderful! Mr. McKinney is kind, compassionate and extremely organized. I think he should teach a class to other attorneys regarding his filing system and communication with clients. [His assistant] is the sweetest assistant and truly cares about you as an individual. I highly recommend them!

Can’t say enough about Mr. McKinney. He is great lawyer and I always felt like he cared about me and my situation. I went through a very difficult situation at work that led ultimately to a lawsuit. I had been with a different lawyer who would never return my calls or let me know what the status of my case was. I got my file back from him and hired Mr. McKinney. He told me plain what my situation was and always kept me informed on what was going on in my case. I was very happy with the settlement he got for me too. Needless to say I would definitely recommend him to a friend.
